Europe’s and America’s best fishing worm is here in Australia. Eisenia Hortensis or Dendrobaena/Dendro’s have been commercially bred and renamed by us as the Catchall Crawler. Why did we call it the Catchall? Because of the huge variety of fish that can be caught with this worm. Everything from Murray Cod, Yellow Belly, Silver Perch, Australian Bass and Trout through to saltwater species such as Bream, Whiting, Flathead, Mullet and Estuary Cod. Yes this worm works really well in brackish and saltwater!!! It truly is the most versatile and best fishing worm in the world. Don’t be fooled by their medium size or their stripy red colouring. These are definitely not overgrown Tigers. They are scientifically called the Eisenia Hortensis or Dendrobaena Veneta.
We have done extensive fishing trials with these worms and have consistently caught far greater numbers and varieties of fish. One controlled trial showed that African Night Crawlers caught 2 fish, Cod worms caught 6 fish and the Catchall Crawlers caught 36 fish, using 2 identically rigged rods, fished in the same spot over the same period of time.
These worms have a very tough skin, similar to Scrubbies and can be kept in refrigeration for up to 3 months to extend their shelf life. Just remove from the fridge the day before use to liven them up again!
- Protect from the sun and other sources of heat.
- Store between 5 – 25 degrees.
- For longer storage, they may be refrigerated for up to 3 months.
- Do not freeze. Do not store directly on ice.
- Keep in a well ventilated area.
In winter monitor the overnight temperature. In summer check the bedding material. If the bedding is too dry, lightly mist with water to refresh the worms but do not soak (too wet is not good).
At 3 – 4 weeks follow the bellow instructions to extend the life of your punnets.
- Remove the lid from packet.
- Give a light misting of water from a spray bottle. Spray only enough to get the packets damp, but not wet.
- Add a light sprinkling of oat bran or quick oats (about 1 teaspoon), spread evenly on the top.
- Repeat the above routine weekly or as required.
